Job Description

This opportunity seeks a skilled Educational Interpreter (ASL) to provide 1:1 support for a Kindergarten student who is fully deaf with cochlear implants. The student has previous experience with sign language from early intervention and will benefit from an interpreter as they transition into elementary school. The role is based in an elementary school near Bellefonte, PA, approximately 20 minutes from Penn State and about an hour outside of Harrisburg.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver 1:1 ASL interpreting services tailored to the students communication needs
• Collaborate with another interpreter onsite who supports a 2nd-grade student to address questions and share best practices
• Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and peers to ensure full access to the curriculum
• Adapt interpreting methods as the student progresses in the elementary school setting

Qualifications:

• Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience interpreting in educational settings
• Prior experience working with students who have cochlear implants is highly desirable
• Comfort working 1:1 with young children, specifically in grades K-5
• Professional, reliable, and able to work fully onsite throughout the school year

Position Details:

• Contract role for the full school year (NSY)
• Based onsite in Bellefonte, PA at an elementary school
• Interviews available starting the week of July 28th

Candidates selected will participate in an initial phone screening before being considered for placement.
