The City of Irvine seeks collaborative and customer service oriented individuals to take on the role of Library Assistant I in the development of Irvine’s new public library system. The Library Assistant I will provide a wide variety of paraprofessional and technical library assistance to the public under direct or general supervision. Please note that this position will require occasional evening and weekend shifts. Salary Range Library Assistant I - $58,656.00– $92,289.60 Annually This recruitment will supplement an Eligibility List that will expire on May 19, 2026. Your Impact Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist library customers in the use of library services and technology and provide basic information and research assistance to the public. Assist with collection maintenance as directed. Assist with implementing general library programming and other library-related activities. Assist with interpreting and applying library policies and procedures for customers. Participate in community and outreach events as directed. Assist with the supervision of facility rentals and enforce rules applicable to that reservation. Minimum Qualifications College coursework in library services, community services or related field with four years of increasing responsible experience of advanced clerical, technical, or paraprofessional library services experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license. Ability to possess or obtain a First Aid and CPR certification within three months of employment is required. Preferred Qualifications A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or one-year of experience working in a library as a Library Assistant or higher. College level coursework in Library Science or a related field is highly desirable. Ability to apply City Library policies and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing to a diverse audience. Basic knowledge of library information resources and technology.
