Arlington Public Schools is hiring a Locksmith position (1.0 FTE). The role involves skilled lock installation, maintenance, access control, and key cutting across school facilities. Pay Base pay range: $23.80/hr - $44.18/hr. This range is based on skills and experience. Responsibilities Install all types of locks, integrated security systems, access control devices, and lock hardware including panic bars. Maintain electrical access and exit control systems. Adjust, maintain, repair, and replace door locks, padlocks, tumbler locks, combination locks, and other lock hardware. Design master key systems, maintain records, and redesign lock cylinders. Operate key‑cutting machines and change lock combinations using code systems. Open or remove locks that cannot be opened by ordinary means. Instruct district personnel in the operation of key‑cutting and code machines. Safely operate hand and power tools, including lathe, drill press, and other power tools used in the locksmithing trade. Prepare routine reports, material lists, estimating job costs, and making surveys of locksmith needs. Provide work direction to staff assigned to perform locksmith work (may assist). Qualifications High school graduation or equivalent. Completion of a four‑year apprenticeship program in the locksmithing trade. One year of full‑time, paid journeylevel experience in the locksmithing trade, or five years of full‑time, paid experience under a journeyman or crafts supervisor. Completion of Virginia 18‑hour 25E Locksmith Entry‑Level training. State driver’s license required. Proficiency in lock fabrication, key cutting, code systems, and mechanical lock repair. Ability to diagnose repair needs, use hand and power tools, follow written instructions, keep accurate records, and work cooperatively. Knowledge of current practices, materials, hand and power tools, and related trades. Physical Attributes & Hazards Work is a sedentary‑active mix involving moderate physical effort, lifting up to 50 lb, using tools and equipment, and operating office equipment for prolonged periods. Use of PPE (safety shoes, eye protection, hard hat, gloves, respirator) required. May work evening/night shifts, overtime, emergency call‑out list status.
