Duration: Academic Year (e.g. 20252026) with potential renewal
We seek a certified and experienced American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to coordinate with Ohio public school districts and support Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing K12 students through live virtual interpretation. In this fully remote role, you will provide high-quality, real-time sign language interpretation for classroom instruction, small-group activities, and educational meetingsensuring equitable access to curriculum content.
Deliver accurate ASL English interpretation during virtual classroom instruction, group lessons, individual support sessions, and school events.
Interpret instruction, discussions, assessments, and meetings consistent with IEP or 504 Plan objectives.
Prepare by reviewing lesson plans and subject-specific materials ahead of sessions.
Collaborate with general and special education teachers, support staff, and families to support student communication needs.
Participate in IEP meetings, parent teacher conferences, and team planning sessions when needed.
Document interpretation sessions, maintain logs, and uphold data confidentiality under FERPA.
Support Deaf culture awareness and inclusive communication practices in collaboration with school staff.
Use provider-approved video conferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.) and remote interpreting tools, troubleshoot technical issues as needed.
Required:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong expressive & receptive interpreting skills.
Certification:
EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.5 or above , or
RID-based certification (e.g. NIC, CI/CT, CDI), or
Ohio Department of Educationrecognized interpreter license.
Minimum of 1 year (2 years preferred) of K12 educational interpreting experience, especially in remote settings.
Reliable high speed internet, private workspace, and video conferencing capabilities.
Preferred:
Associate's or Bachelors degree in interpreting, Deaf education, or related field (Masters level is a plus).
Experience with remote educational platforms and assistive technology.
Knowledge of IDEA, IEP/504 accommodations, and inclusive practices for Deaf/HoH students.
Cultural competence in Deaf and Blind communities.
