Job Description

This is a full-time salary role $55,000/year with PTO & options for health benefits based out of our HQ office in Austin, TX. It does require approximately 20% of time monthly spent in store locations (Austin, Dallas, Houston).

We are looking for an innovative visual merchandiser to create unique DIY visual displays, troubleshoot existing displays, create eye-catching graphic elements and collaborate with retail teams within our 3 locations (Austin, Dallas & Houston) to assist in generating sales through creative retail displays that uphold company visual standards. You will employ visual merchandising principles, graphic design and DIY/crafting to convert window shoppers into prospects by driving branding and sales objectives in order to maximize profitability.

As visual merchandiser, you will coach team members on visual operations, merchandise placement and standards, visual display, and visual analysis, and inspire teams through shared vision, creativity, empathy, and empowerment, tailoring motivation to the individual and leveraging the strengths of the team.

This is a highly creative role that requires the ability to pitch new concepts to the owner utilizing In-Design or Canva and then to articulate those pitches by either independently creating displays (painting, building & installing) or outsourcing labor. The role is also analytical in nature and requires the merchandiser to spend time in store to understand the opportunity for improvement. Additionally, the person in this role must have experience training retail staff and have the ability to lead a team in-store for quarterly audits and floorsets.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and implementing a visual merchandising strategy for brick and mortar retail stores and pop-up locations.
  • Visiting locations to implement new visual standards and monitor each location's merchandising planning.
  • Ensuring the strategy is in line with the store’s brand, products, and target market.
  • Generating sketches and renderings of visual displays that meet the store’s visual design requirements.
  • Generating graphic elements - signage, vinyls, menus, fliers etc.
  • Finalizing designs and creating detailed floor plans for display areas.
  • Sourcing the props, creative materials, and accessories for displays.
  • Installing and setting up window displays, walkways, counters, and in-store displays, or supervising contractors hired for this purpose.
  • Building custom displays including - word working, hand painting, furniture building, lighting, etc.
  • Changing displays to promote new product launches or to reflect festive or seasonal themes.
  • Ensuring uniformity of displays and branding across multiple store locations.
  • Delegating responsibilities among team members.
  • Working directly with store managers to communicate new visual needs and understand each location's unique challenges.
  • Monitoring costs and working within budget.
  • Researching lifestyle and design trends that will inform the visual merchandising strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, spatial design, interior design, retail management, or a related field.
  • Proven work experience as a visual merchandiser or visual manager (5+ years).
  • Comprehensive portfolio of relevant visual design work.
  • Experience with DIY and crafting.
  • Experienced at using Adobe Creative Suite programs, such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, or other visual design tools.
  • Experienced in Canva
  • Proficiency in Google Drive programs.
  • Working knowledge of current visual merchandising trends and best practices.
  • Ability to analyze sales merchandising reports and survey results.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends.
