The position is for 1 year; it may be renewed at the end of that time period. Due to prototype build responsibilities, this role is in-person only in Thousand Oaks, CA. No relocation assistance is provided. Job Description: Supports the Instruction Design and Human Factors Engineering/Usability Engineering (HFE) teams in creating instruction materials, including Instructions for Use (IFUs) for medical devices. Responsibilities include copywriting, layout, line-art illustrations, developing digital samples, managing projects, supporting usability studies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and process improvements. Top 6 Must-Have Skill Sets: 5-10 years instruction design experience, proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, and understanding of structure and grids. 3-5 years prototyping small-volume cartons, leaflets, and labels, with manual assembly skills. 3-5 years managing design projects and/or teams. Background in medical, healthcare, or pharmaceuticals. Reliability, flexibility, and strong attention to detail. Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Create and update IFUs, reference guides, and artwork for medical devices. Manage projects, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and maintain change histories. Develop prototypes for usability studies, including physical assembly when needed. Provide guidance on content, illustrations, and layout. Support process improvements and oversee external vendors or junior staff. Red Flags for Recruiters: Only academic experience or marketing/branding background without regulated product design experience. Junior-level experience or only text-based instructions without illustrations. Lack of prototyping experience.
